Fraud Protection Tips for Resellers
Fraud Protection Tips for Resellers
Solution
Here at Data Packet Networks we actively scan our orders for internet fraud, and we highly recommend that our resellers do the same. If you do not screen your orders for fraud, you risk the chance of chargebacks, losing your merchant account, having your business be unsuccessful, and losing your reseller account with us.
Here are some helpful techniques we recommend you use to check your orders.
1. Auto-signup.
Our Helm control panel offers the ability to offer automatic and instant account activation. We strongly recommend you DO NOT activate this feature unless you have staff that are capable of monitoring the orders. Most scammers will go with a host that has auto-signup so that they can quickly send out their scam emails and leave.
2. Check the IPs.
Check the IP address to make sure it matches the billing address. If you receive an order from someone who claims to live in California and their IP address shows that they are living in Germany, then that could be a bad sign. You should call them to verify the order, or void the transaction completely.
You can check IPs at

3. Check the email.
Most fraudulent orders will come from customers with an email account from a free email provider, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail. Make sure to check the name of the email address also. If you receive an order from Jessica Smith and her email address is
John@freeturkeyemail.com
, then that could be a problem.
4. Large orders
If a new client makes a large order without first asking you any questions then this is a sign they could be using a stolen credit card.
5. Call to verify orders.
Calling your client to verify orders is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your clients.
